The smartphone unveilings continue at IFA 2014 in Berlin this week with Huawei’s new Ascend G7, an iPhone lookalike with an all-metal form factor. It’s a midrange device that has some nice specifications, including a snappy 64-bit processor, a 13-megapixel camera, and a Huawei’s new Emotion 3.0 user interface.
While Huawei is famous for its more affordable handsets designed for emerging markets, the Chinese company knows how to make impressive smartphones, and every so often it pulls something interesting out of its bag. The Ascend G7 is one of those devices — but is that because it looks so much like an iPhone?
The Ascend G7′s design couldn’t really be any closer to the iPhone’s; it’s made almost entirely out of metal with shiny, chamfered edges, and antennas integrated neatly into its sides. It even has those all-too-familiar cutouts in its back, which are color-coded to make its display.
Inside the Ascend G7, there’s a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. There’s also a 3,000mAh battery, a 13-megapixel Sony Exmor RS sensor on its back, and a 5-megapixel wide-angle shooter on its front that sits above its large, 5.5-inch 720p display.
The Ascend G7 isn’t really a flagship phone, then, despite its impressive looks, and that means it’s much more affordable; the device will cost just €350 ($325) when it goes on sale this November.
